Abstract
302 cases of epistaxis were observed at our clinic during the period of 3 years from January 1972 to December 1974.
The following results were obtained.
1. The incidence of patients with nasal bleeding was 3.05% among the 7944 patients treated at the Department of ENT. and 11.03% among 2739 patients with rhinological problems. Admitted patients for further observation and management were 45 cases (15%).
2. Epistaxis was most frequently observed in the age group of 0 to 9 (26,15%) and 10 to 19 (25.50%) and more than female. with the ratio of 4 :3.
3. In etiological differentiation, among the 302 cases. of epistaxis 99 cases (32.78%) were caused by local factors, 48 cases (15.89%) by general factors and 155 (51.02%) by unknown factors.
4. In differentiation by the induced diseases, anomaly of nasal septum was the most one among the local factors and hypertension among the general factors.
5. The bleeding occured more often from the left nasal cavity than the right side.
6. The most frequent site of epistaxis was Kisselbach¢¥s plexus (73.21%).
